Nomads of the 19th Century Queensland Goldfields by Lennie Wallace
"Dr Jack" Hamilton was one of the natural leaders on the early goldfields. He selflessly healed the sick and the wounded, he was a prodigious bare-knuckle pugilist and he fearlessly defended the underdog.
Subsequently in 1878 he became a formidable Queensland politician fighting for the democratic rights of the miners and the fair development of the fledgling colony of Queensland.
