This is the life story of my father, Donald Cairns Lawrie, delivered through his eyes. The story begins in the Burnett region of Queensland during his childhood and youth, when life was simpler, wildlife more prolific, communities more united and worldly goods less important. It is also an account of five years' duty in the Australian Imperial Forces (AIF) during WWII. including three and a half years as a frontline soldier outside Australia. The story ends with soldier settler days in the Western District of Victoria, and his return to Queensland.

This is the story of a man who believed that, throughout his life, good luck was on his side. He also believed his life was full of riches some never find.
