FICTION. Raised in Africa, Andrew Taylor, an english migrant lad, arrives in Sydney in 1966 with his family. Wrenched away from his adopted land and unable to return, he yearns once more for a horse, a swag and the freedom of the open air, essential ingredients he needs for his survival.
He applies for a job in Nockatunga, a cattle station in South West Queensland, but, on his arrival, the stockmen and ringers take an immediate dislike to the Pommy amd Andrew is ridiculed and scorned.
Taking pity on the scrawny kid, who has travelled two thousand five hundred miles to find work, Mike, the manager, only offers Andrew a fortnight's trial out of compassion.
Andrew sets out to prove to both Mike and the men that he can work hard.
